Logical Set Planning
When possible, even tho we never see transition between two or more sets in the storyboard. Construct the sets in a logical way. Layout is shooting base on the storyboard and we are managing the sets in a efficient way.

Here we have the subconscious
Art department, sets department, layout department, lighting department.
about three months or more ago, we stated on a set which we only had storyboard, color script and 2d art sketches to look at. we do have a PreVis model, but in my opinion, it doesn't really work in this case. There are much hard works and great people involved in this project as the usual. Today, Im starting to see the set's render come back with lighting, and it is quite amazing to see and think about how we started at the beginning. No one know what is the set will look like back in three or more moths ago. We only had ideas, and some visual tests. Not to mention we have so many people involved in this set, and each of us has a little different mind vision for the set, and of course no one knows exactly what the set will look like eventually. There were a lot of communication, direction to help us to keep on the right track, so today, we see everyone one's mind vision on the screen in the lighting renders.

Finally Figure Drawing Again!

I don't remember when was the last I did figure drawing. It could be when I was in high school, but Im not sure, it was a long time ago anyway. I finally use some of my lunch time time to do these drawings. I enjoy very much and I think it is a good way to train my eyes and study human body and anatomy. These drawings are definitely help me to digital sculpt better. Hope to do more in the future.

Questions I answered for a student from Taiwan
當初選擇電腦動畫的原因就是它所包含的領域非常之多。從寫故事到畫腳本,美術插畫到人物實體雕塑,場景草圖設計一直到縮小模型,電腦模型製作上色到環境打光,粒子特效製作再加上電腦環境模擬,當然還有一大群默默在後編寫程式的工程師們。電腦動畫聽起來也許像單一的領域,但當你開始接觸它後,你會發現它其實是由許多對不同領域有興趣的人所組成。其實以前我一直想成為一個平面設計師,但總是覺得成長空間有限,錢也賺的不多。為了提升自己的眼光和技術,後來慢慢接觸了網路和影音部分領域, 就開始想訓練自己成為一個數位設計師。最後還是覺得差一點什麼,做出來的東西總是不夠豐富,決定開始接觸了3D, 也愛上了它就再也回不去了。它真的是把我之前所學的一切都用上了。
不管是電腦動畫或真人電影,它們就像蓋一棟大樓一樣。需要很常的時間,要各式各樣的人才和機器材料。建築師和導演一樣,他們都不是因為比其它人特別厲害或聰明所以才有那另人羨慕的職位,他們是因為知道如何利用人才在有限的時間裡和在最有效的情況下完成作品。我本身之前兩位在公司的長官都是畢業於建築系。也許他們和我有所同感。
當你在一家好餐廳吃飯,每當你點的食物到你面前時,你是否有想過在廚房的師父們可是前晚就設計新菜單,早早就去魚市場批購,返回餐廳切菜洗肉,調理食才等等…一直到烹煮,擺盤裝飾,當菜到你面前時你是否有想過那在廚房辛苦的師父們,還是只注意到那帥帥或美美的服務生呢?假如你有看過 Pixar Ratatouille, 你也許可以明白一個好餐廳也是需要不同的廚師背景組成,有大廚二廚,專做湯的師父,專做甜點的師父,甚至那正在洗碗的年輕實習生,少一樣都不行。我相信喜歡做動畫的人和在廚房工作的人是很像的。他們所追求的不是那眾人仰慕的眼光,最另他們高興的是有幸的和同好一起創作而去享受那一向堅苦和有趣的製作過程。
你還有時間去體會對你真正有熱情的東西,年輕人別急的想出頭。許多對某事有成的人,在別人眼中看似一夜成名,但其實都是他們默默努力工作而得來。現在想想當初開始學動畫時我22歲,之後專心在大學和研究所學動畫4年。一直到現在工作幾年後還有學不完的東西,或者我應該說永遠有學不完的新資訊,新科技可應用在電腦動畫裡。也許這是另一個原因我喜歡從事這一行,但應該說每一行都一樣啦,要有強烈的求知心。現在又想想以前在學校的時候,有多少工作到深夜的日子,在那些日子裡我也常常都在想,我這麼努力的做喜歡的事,最後是否真的會得到回報?有這想法的同時,我領悟到許多人正在更努力的向前進,而我卻停留在原地空想著未來。後來發現有其想法是恐怖的,因為它會讓我懷疑自己而浪費更多的時間。我們要相信自己而更努力的去做喜歡的事。對其事更有求知心和熱情。
